Statement
I place one quarter on the ground and patiently wait until someone
picks it up.
Upon noticing the shiny piece of metal and in that moment of
action when the subject is in the process of reaching for the quarter, I hit the shutter.
The quarter is always brand new, it must be placed under direct
sunlight when possible, and the subject must never know of my intention between the coin and my camera. I can be concealed within the shadows of an alleyway, in a doorway on a busy street or right in plain sight.
I use different locations to reveal new backdrops to the action and where a steady crosscurrent of potential subjects travel through. I have used approximately one hundred dollars in quarters to date.
